Summary:

The harness design engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing wiring harness systems for various applications. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electrical engineering, experience with harness design tools, and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to understand and implement the required system functionalities. The candidate should also have relevant experience in physical harness integration and testing on electric vehicles.

Experience:

Preferably 2 to 3 years of experience in harness design. If Mechanical Engineering, at-least 1 year of relevant experience in wiring harness design and development

Key responsibilities:

  1. Design and develop wiring harness and its related components in CAD.
  2. Create detailed electrical schematics and harness drawings using CAD software, preferably AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
  3. 3D routing of harness on CAD software based on prepared schematic and circuit diagrams.
  4. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical and manufacturing engineers, to ensure design feasibility and integration.
  5. Perform electrical load analysis and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  6. Develop and maintain documentation, including design specifications, BOM, test plans, and validation reports.
  7. Suggest E&E components and/or vendors based on the specifications and functionalities.
  8. Conduct prototype testing and validation, analyze test results, and implement necessary design modifications.
  9. Support manufacturing and production teams(vendors) by providing technical guidance and troubleshooting assistance.
  10. Stay current with industry trends and advancements in wiring harness technology and materials including certifications and standards to be followed.
  11. Conduct necessary checks to make sure the manufactured harness meets the specification in the drawings and physically integrate the harness to the product and cross-check functionality of components.
  12. Conduct DFMEA of electrical harness and systems.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelors/Master’s in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  2. Strong understanding of electrical principles, circuit design, and connector selection.
  3. Knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to wiring harness design (IPC/WHMA-A-620, SAE, AIS, etc.,).
  4. Ability to identify connectors and electrical components.
  5. Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
  6. Knowledge of electric vehicle harness design.
  7. Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  8. Ability to troubleshoot issues with manufactured product and provide best suitable solutions to meet the specifications and requirements.
  9. Knowledge of CAN, RS and other communication protocols.
  10. Knowledge on electric powertrain components (motor, battery pack and controller) and calculations based on powertrain sizing.
