Role Overview
We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer with 3–4 years of experience in wiring harness design, electrical packaging, and vehicle-level integration. The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience with SolidWorks Electrical, harness routing and creation, 2D drawing preparation, and vehicle-level packaging studies.
The candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams to develop and integrate wiring harnesses and electrical components while ensuring design feasibility, manufacturability, and compliance with vehicle-level requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and manage 3D wiring harness routing and design using SolidWorks Electrical.
- Create and modify wiring harness designs based on vehicle-level requirements and packaging constraints.
- Demonstrate good understanding of the wiring harness assembly and manufacturing process.
- Conduct electrical harness and component packaging studies at the vehicle level.
- Develop design guidelines and packaging recommendations for effective mechanical and electrical integration.
- Conduct packaging and design reviews with cross-functional teams and provide suitable engineering solutions.
- Understand vehicle-level requirements, including:
- Carry-over aggregates
- Vehicle BOM
- Vehicle segments
- Vehicle aggregate integration
- Create and maintain 2D wiring harness drawings and related design documentation.
- Apply DFA (Design for Assembly), DFS (Design for Service), DFM (Design for Manufacturing), and DVA principles during product development.
- Coordinate effectively with cross-functional teams such as Mechanical Design, Electrical, Manufacturing, Quality, and Validation.
- Review harness routing and packaging to ensure proper clearances, accessibility, serviceability, and manufacturability.
- Ensure appropriate selection and integration of harness protection and retention components.
Required Technical Skills
- Strong hands-on knowledge of SolidWorks Electrical, particularly 3D harness routing and creation.
- Good understanding of wiring harness design and assembly processes.
- Experience in vehicle-level electrical and mechanical packaging.
- Good knowledge of 2D harness drawing creation.
- Understanding of harness clamps, clips, grommets, protectors, and corrugated/cot tubes.
- Knowledge of DFA, DFS, DFM, and DVA concepts.
- Good understanding of mechanical integration and packaging principles.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, vehicle BOMs, and relevant design requirements.
- Good communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Good to Have
- Knowledge of electronic components and electrical systems.
- Experience working on automotive vehicle-level wiring harness projects.
- Exposure to vehicle architecture, aggregate integration, and electrical component packaging.
- Experience participating in design and packaging reviews with multiple engineering functions.
Educational Qualification
BE / B.Tech / M.Tech in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant engineering discipline.
Preferred Candidate Profile
- 3–4 years of relevant experience in automotive wiring harness design / mechanical packaging / electrical packaging.
- Strong problem-solving and engineering design skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
- Good communication, documentation, and stakeholder-management skills.
