Switchgear engineering lead with CAD depth and on-site coordination responsibility
Role Overview:
We are seeking an experienced switchgear engineer to lead the review, cleansing, standardization and restructuring of an established switchgear product portfolio in preparation for migration into a PLM system. The role is hands-on in CAD and engineering data, but weighted towards switchgear product and manufacturing knowledge — the depth needed to judge whethera part’s engineering definition is complete, correct and reusable. The engineer also coordinates the day-to-day work of a small CAD/engineering-data team and acts as the technical point of contact with the customer.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead engineering review of switchgear CAD models, drawingsand BOMs for correctness, completeness and manufacturability.
- Rationalize productarchitecture — restructure large assemblies into a clear hierarchy and identify common versus variant-specific components.
- Define reusable, modular building blocks (incomer, outgoing, bus coupler, bus trunking, bus earth, mounting arrangements and variant assemblies).
- Set and enforce engineering standards: CAD modelingand drafting practices, GD&T, material and surface-finish, naming, numbering and revision control.
- Verify dimensions, tolerances, materials and interfaces againstdrawings and, where required, against the physical product.
- Guide BOM structuring, fastenerstandardization and preparation of engineering metadatafor PLM migration.
- Coordinate and prioritize the work of CAD / engineering-data engineers; review their output and mentor on switchgear-specific engineering.
- Act as the on-sitetechnical interface with the customer— clarifying scope, sequencing work by product priority and reporting progress.
Required Experience & Skills:
- 8 to 12 years in switchgear or electrical panel/enclosure engineering — primaryand/or secondary distribution, LV/MV switchgear, busbar systems.
- Strong hands-on 3D CAD capability; able to model, review and correct complex sheet-metal and assembly data. Autodesk Inventorexperience preferred; equivalent (SolidWorks, CATIA, NX) acceptable with willingness to work in Inventor.
- Sound commandof engineering drawings, GD&T, tolerancing, sheet-metal design, fabrication and assembly practices for switchgear.
- Working knowledge of BOM structuring, fastenerstandardization and part numbering/revision practices.
- Understanding of switchgear productarchitecture and how variants are configured from common building blocks.
- Ability to interpret engineering intent and make the data complete enoughfor a second supplier to manufacture without the original designer’s undocumented knowledge.
Coordination & Soft Skills:
- Experience coordinating or leading a small engineering/CAD team and reviewingothers’ work.
- Comfortable as the day-to-day technical point of contact with a customer;clear written and spoken English.
- Organized in prioritizing and sequencing a large-part-count workloadby product priority.
- Quality-first mindsetwith attention to detail and documentation discipline.
Preferred / Added Advantage:
- Exposure to PTC Windchill or another PLM system, and to CAD-to-PLM data migration or readiness work.
- Prior work on data cleansing, standardization or legacy-data rationalization projects.
- Familiarity with switchgear standards (e.g. IEC 61439)and typical manufacturing processes.
- Willingness to work on-siteat the client’s Bangalore projectoffice; openness to occasional coordination with an overseas customer team.
Education:
Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Mechatronics Engineering, or an equivalent qualification with relevant switchgear experience.
