Job Summary
The Application Engineer will be responsible for supporting product design, development, and validation activities by applying strong engineering fundamentals, analytical skills, and technical expertise. The role involves close collaboration with design, manufacturing, quality, and customer teams to ensure robust product performance, design feasibility, and manufacturability.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with design and development teams to translate customer requirements into robust engineering solutions.
- Conduct Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) to identify potential risks and define corrective actions.
- Perform tolerance stack-up analysis to ensure design feasibility and product fit/function.
- Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles for precise engineering drawings and dimensional control.
- Support prototype build, design reviews, and validation testing activities.
- Collaborate with manufacturing and quality teams to address design and process-related issues.
- Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, specifications, and technical reports.
- Provide technical support to customers and internal stakeholders throughout the product lifecycle.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree / Diploma in Mechanical, Automotive, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of relevant experience in product design, development, application engineering, or mechanical engineering.
- Hands-on experience in CATIA V5, including Part Modelling, GSD, Drafting, and Assembly.
- Experience with Plastic and Sheet Metal component design and manufacturing processes.
- Experience in DFMEA, GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, and mechanical design principles.
- Exposure to safety-critical components such as steering wheels, airbags, or similar automotive components will be an added advantage.
Required Technical Skills
- Good knowledge of manufacturing processes for Plastic and Sheet Metal components.
- Proficiency in CATIA V5 is mandatory, including:
- Part Modelling
- Generative Shape Design (GSD)
- Drafting
- Assembly
- Strong knowledge of:
- DFMEA
- Tolerance Stack-up Analysis
- GD&T
- Mechanical Design Principles
- Knowledge of DFM/DFA principles and design optimization techniques.
- Good understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and product validation methods.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as in cross-functional teams.
- Experience in the design and development of safety-critical components, including steering wheels, airbags, etc., will be an added advantage.
- Basic understanding of simulation or CAE tools will be an added advantage.
