Job Summary

We are looking for an Electrical Design Engineer with 3–7 years of relevant experience in EV charging infrastructure, electrical system design, power distribution, PDU development, or HV/LV electrical systems.
The candidate will be responsible for designing the complete electrical architecture of EV charging stations, from utility/grid input to individual chargers, including power distribution, protection systems, PDU design, HV/LV panels, switchgear, electrical calculations, layouts, and detailed design documentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design complete electrical architecture for EV charging stations, from utility/grid input to individual chargers.
  • Develop power distribution schemes for multiple EV chargers at a single location.
  • Perform electrical calculations for:
    • Connected load, maximum demand, diversity & demand factors
    • Voltage drop and short-circuit/fault current
    • Cable and busbar sizing
    • MCB/MCCB/ACB/fuse selection
    • Earthing & grounding
    • Power factor and reactive power
    • Transformer and DG capacity
    • Thermal loading and derating
  • Develop Single-Line Diagrams (SLDs), electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Design and develop Power Distribution Units (PDUs) for EV charging applications.
  • Design/specify HV/LV panels, switchboards, switchgear, busbars, breakers, contactors, isolators, protection devices and metering systems.
  • Develop electrical layouts, panel layouts, cable routing, cable schedules, termination details and interconnection drawings.
  • Ensure proper segregation and protection of HV, LV, control and communication circuits.
  • Coordinate electrical design with mechanical, civil, charger, controls and electronics teams.
  • Review designs for safety, reliability, maintainability, manufacturability and applicable standards.
  • Prepare technical specifications, BOMs, schematics and design documentation.
  • Support component selection and supplier interactions for panels, switchgear, cables, connectors and protection devices.
  • Support installation, commissioning, troubleshooting and resolution of electrical design issues.
  • Review existing installations and recommend improvements for capacity expansion and future charger additions.

Required Technical Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering (EEE), Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 3–7 years of relevant experience in electrical design, EV charging infrastructure, industrial electrical systems, power distribution, PDU development or similar applications.
  • Good understanding of EV charging systems and charging station electrical architecture.
  • Strong knowledge of grid-to-charger power distribution and multi-charger installations.
  • Experience in sizing:
    • Cables and wires
    • Busbars
    • Switchgear and protection devices
    • Panels and PDUs
    • Transformers
    • Earthing systems
    • Power distribution equipment
  • Knowledge of HV/LV systems, switchgear, panel boards and protection systems.
  • Experience in PDU design and development, preferably in automotive, EV or industrial applications.
  • Experience with HV panel board and switchgear design/development.
  • Understanding of electrical protection coordination and basic selectivity/discrimination.
  • Good knowledge of electrical safety, isolation, earthing and fault protection.
  • Knowledge of relevant IEC/IS and applicable EV charging/electrical installation standards.
  • Ability to read and develop electrical schematics, SLDs and wiring diagrams.

Design Software

Practical experience with:
  • SolidWorks – 3D modelling and mechanical/electrical packaging of panels, PDUs and components.
  • AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN or equivalent electrical design/layout tools.
  • Microsoft Excel for electrical calculations, sizing and load analysis.
  • Familiarity with electrical simulation/calculation tools is an added advantage.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with AC and DC EV charging systems, including high-power charging.
  • Experience designing infrastructure for multiple chargers at a single site.
  • Experience with HT/LT distribution systems, transformers, APFC systems, MDBs, SMDBs, MCCs and distribution panels.
  • Experience with HV cable selection, termination and routing.
  • Knowledge of energy metering, protection relays, surge protection and power quality.
  • Experience in automotive, EV, industrial automation, renewable energy or power electronics.
  • Exposure to site installation, commissioning and electrical troubleshooting.
