Job Description

The harness design engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing wiring harness systems for various applications. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electrical engineering, experience with harness design tools, and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to understand and implement the required system functionalities. The candidate should also have relevant experience in physical harness integration and testing on electric vehicles.
Experience:
2 to 3 years of experience in harness design. If Mechanical Engineering, at least 1 year of relevant experience in wiring harness design and development  Location: Bengaluru, India
Key responsibilities:
  • Design and develop wiring harness and its related components in CAD
  • Create detailed electrical schematics and harness drawings using CAD software, preferably AutoCAD and SolidWorks
  • 3D routing of harness on CAD software based on prepared schematic and circuit diagrams (preferably SolidWorks)
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical and manufacturing engineers, to ensure design feasibility and integration
  • Perform electrical load analysis and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements
  • Develop and maintain documentation, including design specifications, BOM, test plans, and validation reports
  • Suggest E&E components and/or vendors based on the specifications and functionalities
  • Conduct prototype testing and validation, analyze test results, and implement necessary design modifications
  • Support manufacturing and production teams(vendors) by providing technical guidance and troubleshooting assistance
  • Stay current with industry trends and advancements in wiring harness technology and materials including certifications and standards to be followed
  • Conduct necessary checks to make sure the manufactured harness meets the specification in the drawings and physically integrate the harness to the product and cross-check functionality of components
  • Conduct DFMEA of wiring harness and electrical systems
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s/Master’s in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • Strong understanding of electrical principles, circuit design, and connector selection
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to wiring harness design (IPC/WHMA-A-620, SAE, AIS, UN-ECE, etc.,)
  • Ability to identify connectors and electrical components
  • Ability to maintain supplier database for connectors and other Electrical & Electronic components
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities
  • Knowledge of electric vehicle working and functionalities
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and pro-actively meet deadlines
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues with design and/ or manufactured product and provide best suitable solutions to meet the specifications and requirements
  • Knowledge of CAN, RS and other communication protocols
  • Knowledge on electric powertrain components (motor, battery pack and controller) and calculations based on powertrain sizing
  • Strong knowledge in software used to generate electrical Schematics (SolidWorks, Rapid Harness, Tinker CAD, Pickering, Drawio, etc.
  • Strong knowledge in Harness 3D routing (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Ability to generate 2D harness manufacturing drawings
